remote Community and Partnerships Manager at Skillcrush

Skillcrush is looking for a junior designer to join our team as a Design & UX Teaching Assistant (TA).

As a Teaching Assistant, it’ll be your job to give students the crucial feedback they need to sharpen their design and user experience skills. You’ll teach them how to concisely talk about their work, iterate based on feedback, and give constructive criticism to their classmates. This means responding to their questions in a timely manner, hosting live video q&as, helping to build engagement in our online community, and just generally being their biggest cheerleader. 🙂

This job could be right for you if you’re a junior designer/UX designer with great communication skills who cares about making technology education more fun, accessible, and personal.

You should be able to work 20 hours/week, preferably mostly evenings and weekends in U.S. time zone equivalents since students mainly need support outside of business hours so that’s when we’ll need you most!

  • A portfolio of work displaying your ability to design websites
  • Experience with journey maps, user flows, and usability testing
  • Strong understanding of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign—You can design business cards or website comps without breaking a sweat!
  • Understanding of Figma or another wireframing & prototyping tool
  • Understanding of best practices regarding wireframes, prototyping, icons, and logo design
  • Knowledge of design thinking methodology and UX process and tools
  • Ability to give constructive feedback and motivate students as they work on assignments
  • Top-notch communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Evening and weekend availability in U.S. time zone equivalents
  • Lots of patience!

  • Experience working as a freelance designer
  • Experience doing UX research, conducting user tests, and iterating on feedback
  • Understanding of digital marketing best practices, including SEO
  • Web development skills, such as HTML & CSS, Git and GitHub, etc.
  • Experience teaching, preferably online or in technology
  • Experience working remotely

  • Answer student questions about UX and visual design in our Slack student community and via email
  • Provide weekly live support to students via Zoom video calls
  • Give students personalized feedback on their coursework
  • Facilitate engagement in our student community
  • Attend weekly team meetings and be an active member of our scrum team
  • Improve the student experience by identifying and addressing improvements to class material
